IASA/ISBE Directors of Academic Empowerment
IASA and the Illinois State Board of Education have partnered together to create a new position by refocusing an existing state grant. This position will provide an additional layer of support to districts with a specific focus on improving student performance.
At no additional cost to eligible school districts, the DAE will provide on site and flexible support for schools. Eligible districts identified by ISBE have been contacted about this service. Examples of support include strategic planning, review of instructional programming, coordination of culture/climate surveys, SEL programming support or any initiative happening in schools designed to accelerate academic improvement. Meet Dr. Mable AlfredDr. Alfred has over 35 years of experience in educational leadership, including six years in the superintendency at Elementary School District #159 in Matteson. She has also worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at Posen-Robbins ESD #143-5 and held various roles in Chicago Public Schools. Throughout her career, Dr. Alfred has a track record of successfully delivering initiatives that drive efficiency and achievement. She prides herself in helping establish a culture of transparency and accountability while also being able to engage with different stakeholder groups.
Meet Dr. Denean AdamsDr. Denean Adams is a dedicated educational leader, with over three decades of unparalleled experience across diverse leadership roles, including Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Professor, Curriculum and Instruction Program Director, Principal and Dean of Students. Her career is built on a foundation of unwavering dedication to student success, equity, and innovation.
With an extensive background in strategic planning, data analysis, school operations, curriculum/program development, coaching and grant writing, Dr. Adams has transformed countless educational organizations by delivering tailored, impactful solutions.
Meet Dr. Lori James-GrossDr. James-Gross brings 33 years of educational leadership experience, including 23 years as superintendent of Unity Point School District #140 in Carbondale and Murphysboro Community Unit School District #186. She has successfully led continuous school improvement initiatives using a comprehensive whole-child approach, fostering collaboration among educators, families, and students to prioritize student agency while ensuring strong alignment between curriculum, professional development, and positive school culture.
